Get The Best Night's Sleep You've Ever Had With These Easy Steps

Who doesn’t want to sleep like a baby? I’ve actually never really got that saying as babies don’t exactly get the best night’s sleep, do they? But that’s perhaps to be discussed some other time, as currently I want to help my lovely readers get the best night’s sleep they’ve ever had.

There are some people out there who apparently fall asleep as soon as they’ve hit the pillow, but as you can tell from my slightly bitter tone, I’ve never been one of them.

It’s taken me a long time to figure out how to ensure I get the best night’s sleep possible and when I don’t follow these simple tips, I always end up regretting it as I lay there wide awake at 3am wanting to cry into my pillow - in fact, sometimes I actually do!

But don’t feel sorry for me just yet as I do generally sleep fantastically well thanks to these easy to follow steps. If you struggle to get a decent night’s sleep then it might be because you’re not following enough of these suggestions below.

1. Make sure you’re truly exhausted

This is my top tip because it really does work. If you’re both mentally and physically exhausted, you’re not going to lay awake counting sheep or wondering what would happen if time travel actually existed. There’s plenty of research out there that proves regular exercise helps improve quality of sleep. It can actually tackle insomnia and getting a good night’s sleep can also help alleviate the symptoms of depression.

2. Have a bedtime and stick to it

One of the best ways to be able to fall asleep pretty swiftly is to go to sleep at the same time every night. That’s especially hard at the weekends when you are out doing your thing and socialising, so you can let this one slip on a Saturday night. Though if that’s what you decide to do, make sure your drag your sorry self out of bed at a reasonable time on Sunday otherwise you’ll suffer for it Monday morning as you won’t be able to fall asleep at the same time you usually do. If you want the optimum result, stick to the same time even at weekends too!

Sticking to a strict sleep routine will keep your biological clock in order and that in turn will give you great sleep night after night. Try not to make any huge changes to your sleep pattern, especially during the week. Any change you do make, like staying up later or going bed earlier, should only be around 15 minutes off your usual target.

3. Look forward to going to bed

How do I do this? Well, most of us actually cannot wait to get into bed. We spend our childhood’s wanting to stay up late and do anything to avoid being sent to bed, yet as we become adults, there’s nothing we want more than to be wrapped up in bed at the weekend.

However, for those of you who don’t get excited at the thought of an early night, it could be because your bed is not a little bit of paradise - which it should be. Indulge if you have to. Buy yourself those luxurious silk sheets and super king bed if that’s what it takes. Some items are worth splashing out on.
