There are loads of areas of outstanding natural beauty in the UK, including Yorkshire’s Howardian Hills and the Quantock Hills just outside Bristol. But my favourite place on the list has to be the Cotswolds. This expansive area is absolutely huge and covers 800 square metres across the counties of Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Worcestershire, and Warwickshire. So you will certainly find something for your family to do in this large destination! Here are some reasons why it’s one of my favourite places to visit in the UK.

Strong Literary Connections

If you are an avid reader, you should certainly consider a trip to the Cotswolds. The author Laurie Lee set her classic novel, Cider with Rosie, entirely in the area. But it isn’t just Lee’s famous work that has links to the Cotswolds as it is said that Lewis Carroll got a lot of inspiration for Alice in Wonderland while staying here. JM Barrie, Evelyn Waugh, and George Orwell are also said to be big fans of this fantastic place.

The area is known for its excellent mountain biking facilities so the kids will have loads of fun whizzing through the landscape on their cool bikes. And it’ll certainly tire them out ready for bed! If your kids aren’t into the kind of rough and tumble that comes with mountain biking, they may prefer to explore the various forests and hiking routes with you. Tell them to keep an eye out for the local wildlife!
