Here Comes The Sun: Seven Ways To Prepare Your Bedroom For Warmer Months

Although it isn’t quite summer yet, and most days it’s so cold, it barely feels like spring, the weather is starting to warm up, which means that it’s not too long until we start shedding our jumpers for t-shirts and brave the big wide world without a winter coat. However, it’s not just your wardrobe that needs a makeover for summer - Your bedroom does too. Although you don’t need to completely renovate your room in preparation for the summer months, there are a few things that you can do to make it a little cooler, lighter, and brighter. If you want to embrace the summer in your bedroom, then here are seven things you need to do.


1. Clear Away Clutter

It’s easy for clutter and junk to build up in your bedroom throughout the winter months, especially if you’re particularly busy. Unfortunately, this makes the room appear smaller and darker, which is the last thing you want during the summer, and also can cause you stress and anxiety, which is the exact opposite of how a bedroom is supposed to make you feel. To combat this problem, all you need to do is get rid of or put away anything that doesn’t belong in your bedroom.

2. Let In The Light
Natural light is the very best type of light available, and luckily, throughout summer, there’s a pretty large supply, so do what you can to let as much natural light into your room as possible. You can start by swapping dark and heavy curtains for lighter or sheer window treatments. You can also add a few mirrors, as this will help to reflect light into your bedroom, making it appear much brighter. Mirrors are also great for making your bedroom appear larger than it actually is.

3. Block Out Morning Sun
While it’s lovely to enjoy the sunshine during the day and make the most of the last few rays in the evening, morning sunlight is rarely quite as welcome. If you’re one of the many people that wake-up the second it starts to brighten up in the morning, and don’t fancy daily early wake up calls, then you might want to consider some blackout blinds. If you choose a set in a pale colour, then they’ll keep the sunlight out, without making your bedroom appear dark and heavy.

4. Pack Away Winter Bedding
One of the quickest ways to update your bedroom for the summer is by packing away heavy duvets and blankets and swap them for lightweight and breathable materials instead. If you still want to style your bed like a professional, then you can keep the extra pillows and arrange them as normal, and replace your thick throw for a much lighter one. Just make sure to keep warmer blankets accessible, just in case you get chilly one night and can’t get to sleep without one.

5. Add Bright Colours
Although you don’t necessarily need to repaint your bedroom to get it ready for the summer, it can make a huge difference, and as such is something worth considering. If your walls are a darker colour, like blue or purple, then consider repainting them in a paler shade or new colour altogether. If you don’t fancy doing this, then change your bedding to a lighter and brighter shade instead, and consider adding some lighter coloured furniture or repainting what you already have.

6. Bring The Outdoors Indoors
We all want to be outside when the weather is lovely and warm, but if you can't for one reason or another, then think of a few ways to bring the outdoors inside. A very simple way to do this is to add some freshly cut flowers in a vase on your nightstand. If you have a fireplace, another great idea is to fill it with flowers and potted plants while you’re not using it. You should also keep your windows open as much as you can, to improve air quality and provide a gentle breeze.


7. Add A Seating Area
Bedrooms aren’t just for sleeping; Even the smallest of box rooms can also be a great place to relax, so consider places in your room that could accommodate a seating area, and possibly a table. If you can, it’s best to put this in front of or very near to your window, so that you can enjoy as much of the sunshine as you possibly can.
